The article Brain Magic discusses memory as we age as well as the human brain and what happens to it. In the article, it is mentioned that most people have trouble remembering names but according to Laura Carstensen, PhD, "the middle age brain is downright formidable". Remarkabl from ages 40 through 60 people do remarkable better on tests for vocabulary, spatial orientation skills, and inductive reasing than they havd when they were in their 20s. It also shows some brain excercises to practice to keep your brain up and running.
I choose this article because i thought it discussed memory very well like it talked about in chapter 6. There are many different types of memory and although they were not meantioned they did how chunking plays an important role in memory.

CSI Miami Episode Season 8: Spring Break
On this episode of CSI: Miami a group of 3 friends head to Miami for a eventful spring break experience, never planning to all be murdered. The murderer was a then-heavy set blonde headed female who was video taped by two out of the three friends having sexual relations with one of the boys in college. This trauma caused her to loss weight as well as saught after all three friends for revenge. It took the CSI team some time to figure out who the killer was, because the victims were all seen with a blonde headed female but the only subject was a red headed female. Eventually they descovered after doing dna annalyses that the red head was really a blonde as well as the murderer.
I choose to do an episode of CSI: Miami because I am very fond of the show and wanted to related it to psychology somehow. This episode relates to thinking and intelligence discussed in chapter 7. The CSI team is forced to use creativity in there thought process and thing very openly. I think they are using divergent thinking when solving their crimes. Divergent thinking is a type of thinking in which a person starts from one point and comes up with many different ideas or possibilities based on that point. CSI teams have to do this because they cant just focus on one point in risk of missing the murderer.

Go Ask Alice by Anonymous
The book Go Ask Alice by Anonymous is a diary that tell the life beganning to end of a struggling adolescent teenage girl. After making a challenging move Alice struggles with the typical low self-esteem and loneliness of being a teenager. By hanging out with the wrong people Alice starts to experiment with drugs such as herion, marijuana, acid, and LSD. Alice's life from then on is a rollercoaster ride filled with becoming a runaway, drugdealer, and prostitute. Alice did make several attempts to get her act together and she even attended some college, but in the end she misserably failed and was unable due to a fatal drug overdose.
I choose this book because I felt it touched very well over some of the narcotics and hallucinogens that were meantioned in Chapter 4. Hallucinogens are drug that create a loss of contact with reality and alter other aspects of emotion, perception, and thoughts. Some examples of these drugs are LSD, ketamine, and marijuana. Narcotics are drugs that suppress the sensation of pain by binding to and stimulating the nervous system's natural receptor sites for endorphins. Both hallucinogens and narcotics are very harmful drugs that can have a major effect on ones body and brain even with one use. Some people my suffer bad "trips" while others may overdose very easily. All of them may have fatal effects on a human being.

Insomnia by Stephen King
The book Insomnia by Stephen King focuses on a 70-year old widowed man's struggle to overcome his insomnia after the death of his passing wife. His name is Ralph Roberts and his insomnia starts off mild but soon gets worse and worse. Due to the fact that he cannot sleep he starts to have what some may call hallucinations. He goes on journeys with his long lost friend Lois to discovery the cause of the insomnia. By the end of the book Roberts is killed in a car and is finally laid to rest for good.
This novel pulls alot of information chapter 4, which discuss the different types of sleeping disorders some may suffer form. Insomnia is the inability to get to sleep, or get a good quality of sleep such as what was happening to Ralph. In the beganning it started off as Ralph getting sleep just waking up earlier and earlier but Ralph's biggest fear was that he would eventually not be able to fall asleep. When a person can't sleep there brain doesn't function correctly. That is why he started having hallucinations. I choose this book because i think Stephen King for one is a amazing author who really conducts research when creating a book. I also think that a lot of people that suffer from sleeping disorders may not recognize it as a disorder right away and this novel provide a primary example of a sleeping disorder.

Chynna Phillips-Her Secret Struggle
In the March 2010 issue of People Magazine, Chynna Phillips discusses her struggle and help with anxiety disorder caused by stress. Chynna Phillips is a Christian singer, mother to three, and wife who checked herself in to a voluntarily undisclosed treatment facility on her 42nd birthday. Prior to that her half sister, Mackenzie, published a tell-all book relieving that there father had on-and-off sexual relations with Mackenzie for over the course of a decade. Although Chynna's anxiety disorder is said to be a result of "a combination of things" as described by an insider, its not doubt that this played a major role. Lucky for Chynna, it seems she is very well supported by her loving family and friends and is said to expect make a "fast recovery".
Chapter 11 deals a lot with the human body and its accustoms to stress. There are all types of levels of stress, some being more severe causes people to need help dealing with it just like Chynna's stress. Chapter 14 discusses the different types of anxiety disorders and the cause of them as well. Although it is not stated in the article what type in particular Chynna had, i believe she had Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I believe this because in the article Michelle Phillips stated, "it had been a very tough year". This to me is meaning that she had been dealing with a lot of things that triggered her anxiety for longer than 6 months as stated by the books definition. I choose this article primarily because it is not that often you hear someone checking into a facility for an anxiety disorder. I felt it is a way to show people who suffer from it that it is ok to get help for something such as this. I also enjoyed how much her family seemed to be in full support of her and her choose more than looking down on her like some might.
